Interrogating the Anthropocene

Curated by Alissa Dymally Williams

The term Anthropocene demarcates the time period where humans became the predominant force in shaping the climate of our current, geological age. With both a massive transformation occurring in how we might comprehend the present intersection of human culture and the environment and the rapid integration of technology in society at large, artists at present are forced to reconcile with how they use it.Surveying these reconciliations, the works in INTERROGATING THE ANTHROPOCENE intermingle new and traditional media while elaborating on the processes of moving-image. The varied choices made by each artist speak to the myriad of ways we approach larger questions about time, manipulation and artifice. With an emphasis on the impacts of human activity to our climate, there are consequential considerations to be made–environmentally, socially and emotionally.
